Green Power is pleased to announce its upcoming partnership with Jamaica Bauxite Mining Limited (JBM) to initiate a transformative, eco-friendly development project in Lydford, St. Ann, Jamaica. This innovative collaboration will combine Green Power’s expertise in renewable energy and sustainable construction with JBM’s commitment to responsible land use and local economic development. Spanning 215 acres of previously mined land, the project will aim to create an eco-village integrating 1,000 residential homes, commercial facilities, and a dedicated agri-solar park to meet both energy needs and support agricultural activities.

Reimagining Sustainable Living on Reclaimed Land
At the heart of this development will be a commitment to sustainable architecture and community-focused living, transforming previously mined land into a vibrant, eco-friendly community. The eco-village will feature approximately 1,000 residential units on 150 acres, alongside a 65-acre commercial zone designed to host businesses, retail outlets, and community amenities. The project aligns with Jamaica’s Vision 2030 sustainable development goals, creating a self-sustaining and environmentally conscious community that will enhance the area’s economic and social value.
Key Features of the Residential Zone
The residential zone of the Orange Park Housing Development will provide high-quality housing designed to meet the needs of residents across all income levels, with an emphasis on ecological balance and community well-being. Key features include:
- Energy-efficient housing that maximises natural light and ventilation
- Green spaces with native vegetation to promote biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and enhance the community’s natural landscape
- Sustainable utilities and water management systems aimed at minimising waste and supporting conservation efforts
- Resilient building techniques tailored for Jamaica’s tropical climate, with a focus on storm resistance and durability
Integrated Renewable Energy Infrastructure
A central feature of the eco-village will be a private agri-solar park that will provide renewable energy for the community while supporting agricultural productivity. Key elements of the renewable energy infrastructure will include:
- Solar power generation through photovoltaic (PV) systems equipped with battery storage to ensure a reliable, off-grid power supply for the eco-village
- Smart energy management systems to enhance energy efficiency and reduce overall consumption
Commercial Park and Community Amenities
The 65-acre commercial area (Parcel A) will support economic growth by hosting various commercial spaces, including retail shops, recreational facilities, and logistics centres. Planned features include:
- Accessible roads and pedestrian-friendly walkways that connect seamlessly with residential clusters, creating a cohesive community layout
- Community amenities such as parks, sports facilities, and a clubhouse to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and encourage social interaction
Aligning with Jamaica’s Vision 2030 and Climate Change Policy
This development will align with Jamaica’s Vision 2030 and Climate Change Policy Framework by incorporating sustainable design principles and energy-efficient infrastructure. Green Power will leverage advanced building information modelling (BIM), renewable energy systems, and environmentally friendly materials to ensure the eco-village meets the highest standards in green development, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future.
A Commitment to a Greener, Stronger Jamaica
Green Power’s partnership with JBM signifies a shared dedication to sustainable growth and environmental preservation in Jamaica. By transforming previously mined land into a thriving eco-village, this project will enhance the quality of life for residents, support biodiversity, and demonstrate a model of sustainable development that aligns with the country’s environmental goals.
